The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) yesterday launched the FAAN Taxi app in Abuja to facilitate seamless taxi taking at the airport and even downtown.

The app, FAAN said, will allow all taxi operators at the airport to check in on it, eliminating situations where touts harass passengers with all sorts of unregulated taxi services.

FAAN Managing Director Captain Rabiu Hamisu Yadudu said at the launch that beyond eliminating advertising, the app will also improve the agency’s revenue position as leaks will be blocked.

Represented by Director of Security Services, Group Captain Usman Abubakar Sadiq (rtd), FAAN MD said that all taxi operators will be uploaded to the app to be able to operate taxi services at the airport. He thus encouraged all taxi operators at the airport to connect to the App for a more profitable activity.

Also speaking at the event, FAAN Business and Business Development Manager, Mr. Sadiku Abdulkadir Rafindadi noted that the app will enhance seamless passenger facilitation, convenience, safety and security of Nigerians using the app.

He said, “You can be at the airport or anywhere else and call FAAN Taxi App drivers, to take you from the airport and even around town.”

He said existing car rental operators at the airport have embraced the new innovation, saying: “Most of them have embraced it, but some are still trying to understand the app before logging in. But it is an app for taxi operators at the airport.. It is their product; it is for their safety, security and comfort. It is also for the improvement of the income of taxi operators and for FAAN also because automation will block all revenue leakage,” he explained.

Regarding job losses, he said that no taxi operator loses his job because it is the same companies that have been integrated. He said they had engaged the taxi companies operating at the airport from day one and had been given sufficient consideration adding that the innovation will also create more jobs as taxi companies will be more profitable, buy more cars and employ more drivers.

So far, he said he has onboarded over 900 drivers including existing car rental operators, Uber drivers, Bolt drivers and others on the app.

He said there was no additional charge as taxi drivers would pay the same N500 per ride to FAAN as they always did, adding that regardless of the amount charged by the app, the passenger pays directly to the driver.

FAAN Regional General Manager, Abuja Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Mohammed Kabir said the airport sets the tone in all aspects of airport management.

He also assured that other service experiences at Abuja airport will be better improved.
