Panaji: Reiterating the government’s determination to introduce app-based taxi aggregators in Goa, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the state cannot make an exception to this service.
“We need to bring taxi aggregators to Goa, and we will come up with a solution within three months,” Sawant said on Thursday.
Referring to the issue of taxis raised by tourism stakeholders, Sawant said the tourism sector has been affected.
“I’m not saying that, it’s rather the tourism players themselves who have said it. We have to solve the taxi problem. When the whole country and the world accepted taxi aggregators, then Goa cannot be different,” he said.
Stating that the government’s decision to get a taxi aggregator has been widely welcomed, Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said, “I want to ensure cheap taxi fares for Goans and cheap public transport for tourists.”
During the recently concluded monsoon session of the Legislative Assembly, Godinho had urged taxi operators in the state to come together and launch their own app. “I want to say once again to the taxi operators that an app based aggregator has to come. I am ready to help the taxi operators in Goa and let them have their own app. The government will help and fund them” , Godinho said.
Sawant also assured that Mopa and Dabolim airports would co-exist.
