Police have released footage of a man as part of an appeal for information after two taxi drivers were assaulted in Sydney’s Inner West over the weekend.

Just before 10.30pm on Saturday May 31, 2022, emergency services were called to Mullens Street, Balmain, after reports of a fight.

Officers attached to Leichhardt Police Zone Command were present and were told that a taxi driver, a 50-year-old man, was dropping off two male passengers when one of the men became aggressive towards him.

The couple were involved in an altercation outside the vehicle when another taxi nearby pulled up and the driver, a 29-year-old man, tried to pull them apart.

The male passenger then assaulted the young driver before fleeing on foot.

Both taxi drivers were treated by NSW paramedics for facial injuries. The older man was taken to hospital with a major laceration above his right eye.

A crime scene was established and underwent a forensic examination.

As investigations continue, police have released footage of a man they believe can help them with their investigations.

The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, about 185cm tall, slim build, in his twenties, with short brown hair and wearing a green shirt, denim jeans and white Lacoste shoes.

Officers are urging anyone with information, CCTV footage and/or dashcam footage of the incident to contact the police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
