1,000 online taxi drivers stage new protest in DPR

TEMPO.CO, JakartaTaxi online the drivers who are members of the Coalition of Online Drivers (Kado) have planned to organize a demonstration on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, in front of the House of Representatives (DPR) building. In the invitation received by Tempoover 1,000 will join the action.

“We Kado bring three demands,” Indonesian Rental Fleet Association (PAS) Wiwit Sudarsono said via text message on Monday evening, September 19, 2022.

He explained that as a long-term demand, the online taxi drivers urge the ratification of the Online Transport Bill in the National Legislation Program 2022 (Prolegnas). “From previously listed in Prolegnas 2023,” he said.

As a mid-term demand, the drivers are asking the House to pass the Online Transportation Bill and push three ministries viz. the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Communication and Information and the Ministry of Manpower to issue a joint decree or SKB.

“To improve the ecosystem of online transportation companies, pending the passage of the Online Transportation Act,” Wiwit said.

Additionally, online ride-hailing drivers hope the DPR can push ride-hailing app service providers to sign a 10% platform fee agreement.

Wiwit went on to say that the protest is organized on the basis of Law No. 9/1998 on the expression of opinions in public. The action will run from 09:00 Jakarta time until it is over.

“[Other than online taxi drivers,] online ojek drivers will join the rally,” he added, calling on online transport drivers to fight together for their independence.
